IF THIS HAD BEEN AN ALL BLACK GROUP WOULD YOU BE COMPLAINING AND SAYIN THE SAME THING.
JUST WHAT WE NEED, MAYBE YOU CAN SLEEP WITH SOME OF THEM WHILE ON GUARD DUTY>
The good news is that Gays WILL have the right to serve openly in the military, to get married to whomever they wish and to enjoy all the rights of other citizens of the USA... someday. The bad news is that America has always been the Johnny-come-lately at the human rights table. My own mother was born in the USA when woman were not full citizens and could not vote. That was only 89 years ago! African-Americans had to have the military move in to guarantee their rights to education and to vote. That was only 40+ years ago. It wasn't until later that their right to marry whomever they wished was guaranteed through the courts. The U.S.A. has an honored tradition of being dragged to the equal rights table kicking and screaming. This is no exception. I for one accept my position as a "less-than-equal citizen" of the U.S.A., knowing full well that one day, I'll be part of the citizenship able to boast, "Yes, there was a time that our President, our Congress and our Supreme Court held that we were "less-than-equal citizens" just as our women friends were less-than-equal citizens, just as our African-American friends were less-than-equal citizens of this country, and just as they struggled and fought for their equal rights, we, too fought and struggled for ours. The question is what will you be able to say? That you stood up for your gay and lesbian friends? Or that you stood by and remained silent, or worse, that you spoke up against the rights of the minority?

If somehow you believe that what happen to McCain as a POW is relevant to the discussion of economy and government spending then I will ignore any future post you make. I was only trying to make the point that some of us take exception to POW/MIAs being disrespected. I'm feel sorry for you if you can't at least give the man the respect he earned. I don't care if you're a liberal or a conservitive, that kind of sacrifice goes beyond parties or politics. And no the truth doesn't hurt.
I do feel bad and try to help those that have lost their job, struggling to make ends meet (but still working). I refuse anymore, however, to help those that keep having kids that cannot afford them ( I would love to have more, but I can't afford it) and that will not help themselves by living their entire lives off of my (and those who work) taxes. They get free babysitting, free schooling, etc. (again, we the working people pay for it). There is no reason why they cannot help themselves.
